The First Judicial District Juvenile Probation Department is accepting applications for the position of Juvenile Probation Officer.

Salary: Negotiable ($38,000-45,000)– depending on
experience/qualifications;

Requirements: To be eligible for this position an applicant must
- possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University in criminal justice, psychology, sociology or a related field
- be a Certified Juvenile Probation Officer for the State of Texas or have either one year graduate study in criminology, corrections, counseling, social work, psychology or a related field
or
- one year of experience in full-time casework, counseling, community or group work in a social service, community corrections or juvenile agency
- pass a criminal history background check prior to employment and for continued employment
- pass a sex offender registration / background check prior to employment and for continued employment
- pass a fingerprint criminal/sex offender history background check for continued employment
- maintain a working personal vehicle; driving your personal vehicle is a condition of beginning and continuing employment
- possess a valid Texas driver’s license prior to employment and for continued employment
- possess and maintain adequate automobile liability insurance prior to employment and for continued employment
- have an acceptable driving record
- maintain a working personal phone
- possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- be computer literate
- be able to organize and prioritize work activities, manage time effectively and work independently
- reside within or be willing to relocate to any of the four counties (Jasper, Newton, Sabine, San Augustine) served by the department
Duties:
- Serve as a Truancy Prevention/Probation Officer for the First Judicial District Juvenile Probation Department
- provide supervision to those juveniles who are under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court and/or the juvenile probation department to ensure their compliance with conditions of Court ordered probation and/or deferred prosecution
- make every effort to promote the juvenile’s rehabilitation and protect the community from further delinquent acts
- develop an individualized supervision case plan, incorporating input from the juvenile and the family, which addresses the needs of each juvenile
- conduct regular reviews of each juvenile’s case plan to assess its effectiveness and modify the plan as necessary
- conduct investigations/assessments, write investigative reports and prepare cases for Court to assure that the Court is provided timely, accurate and thorough information
- testify in Court hearings when needed
- assist law enforcement in investigations involving juveniles and make determinations regarding the detention or release of juveniles
- work closely with all entities in the community, including law enforcement agencies, school officials, county officials, and the public in general
- screen and complete intake information and assessments on all youth referred to the juvenile probation department
- document thoroughly all casework contacts, status changes, progress and problems to assure that all required contacts are being made and policy is followed
- participate in a 24 hour “on-call” rotation system
- perform other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Juvenile Probation Officer
